Sea-Calm

A histamine H1 antagonist used in the treatment of motion sickness, vertigo, and nausea during pregnancy and radiation sickness. [PubChem]

Sea-Calm is an antihistamine and anticholinergic. It works by blocking a chemical messenger in the brain, which helps to reduce or prevent vomiting.

Sea-Calm is used to treat or prevent nausea, vomiting, and dizziness caused by motion sickness. It is also used for vertigo (or dizziness) caused by certain inner ear problems.

Sea-Calm is an antihistamine that reduces the effects of natural chemical histamine in the body.

Sea-Calm is used to treat or prevent nausea, vomiting, and dizziness caused by motion sickness. Sea-Calm is also used to treat symptoms of vertigo (dizziness or spinning sensation) caused by disease that affects your inner ear.

Usual Adult Dose for Nausea/Vomiting:

25 to 50 mg orally once a day as needed.

Usual Adult Dose for Vertigo:

25 mg orally 1 to 4 times a day or 50 mg orally twice a day.

Usual Adult Dose for Motion Sickness:

25 to 50 mg orally once a day as needed. Sea-Calm should be administered one hour prior to travel and continued for the duration of exposure.

Do not exceed 50 mg in 24 hours.

Usual Pediatric Dose for Nausea/Vomiting:

> 12 years: 25 to 50 mg orally once a day as needed.

Usual Pediatric Dose for Vertigo:

> 12 years: 25 mg orally 1 to 4 times a day or 50 mg orally twice a day.

Usual Pediatric Dose for Motion Sickness:

> 12 years: 25 to 50 mg orally once a day as needed. Sea-Calm should be administered one hour prior to travel and continued for the duration of exposure.

You should not take this medication if you are allergic to Sea-Calm.

Before taking Sea-Calm, tell your doctor if you have asthma or other breathing disorder, glaucoma, an enlarged prostate, or problems with urination.

Use Sea-Calm chewable tablets as directed by your doctor. Check the label on the medicine for exact dosing instructions.

• Take Sea-Calm chewable tablets by mouth with or without food.
• Sea-Calm chewable tablets may be chewed or swallowed whole.
• For prevention of motion sickness, take Sea-Calm chewable tablets at least 1 hour before activity or travel.
• Use Sea-Calm chewable tablets exactly as directed on the package, unless instructed differently by your doctor. Follow any warnings and precautions on the label.
• If you miss a dose of Sea-Calm chewable tablets and you are using it regularly, take it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not take 2 doses at once.

How to use Sea-Calm

Follow all directions on the product package. If your doctor has prescribed this medication, take it as directed. If you are uncertain about any of the information, consult your doctor or pharmacist.

Take this medication by mouth with or without food. The chewable tablets should be chewed thoroughly before being swallowed.

The dosage is based on your medical condition and response to treatment. Do not increase your dose or take this medication more often than directed.

To prevent motion sickness, take the first dose one hour before starting activity such as travel.

Tell your doctor if your condition does not improve or if it worsens.

Major Side Effects

You should check with your doctor immediately if any of these side effects occur when taking Sea-Calm:

• hives
• itching
• puffiness or swelling of the eyelids or around the eyes, face, lips, or tongue
• shortness of breath
• skin rash
• tightness in the chest
• unusual tiredness or weakness

Minor Side Effects

Some of the side effects that can occur with Sea-Calm may not need medical attention. As your body adjusts to the medicine during treatment these side effects may go away. Your health care professional may also be able to tell you about ways to reduce or prevent some of these side effects. If any of the following side effects continue, are bothersome or if you have any questions about them, check with your health care professional:
