What is Triflucan?
Triflucan is a brand-name pharmaceutical medication primarily used to treat a wide range of fungal and yeast infections. It belongs to a class of drugs known as triazole antifungals. The active ingredient in Triflucan is fluconazole.
Mechanism of Action
The medication works by interfering with the ability of fungi to synthesize ergosterol, a vital component of the fungal cell membrane. By inhibiting the enzyme responsible for creating ergosterol, the drug causes holes to form in the cell membranes, which prevents the fungi from growing and reproducing, eventually leading to their elimination by the body's immune system.

Triflucan is frequently utilized for the following conditions:
- Vaginal Candidiasis: Commonly known as a vaginal yeast infection.
- Oropharyngeal and Esophageal Candidiasis: Yeast infections affecting the mouth (thrush) and the throat.
- Systemic Candida Infections: Infections that have spread into the bloodstream or other body systems, such as the urinary tract or lungs.
- Cryptococcal Meningitis: A serious fungal infection of the membranes covering the brain and spinal cord, often seen in individuals with weakened immune systems.
