Mechanism of Action
The active ingredient, nitrendipine, works by inhibiting the influx of calcium ions through specific channels in the smooth muscle cells of the peripheral blood vessels. In a physiological state, calcium causes these muscles to contract. By blocking this movement, Nitresan promotes the relaxation and dilation of the arteries.
When the blood vessels widen, peripheral resistance is reduced, which allows blood to flow more easily. This process results in a lowering of systemic blood pressure. Due to its selectivity, the medication focuses primarily on the vascular smooth muscle with minimal impact on the electrical conduction system of the heart at standard therapeutic levels.
