What is Amoxicillin?
Amoxicillin is a widely used antibiotic medication belonging to the penicillin group of drugs. Mechanism of Action
Amoxicillin works by interfering with the synthesis of the bacterial cell wall. It binds to specific proteins within the cell wall, preventing the bacteria from building a stable protective outer layer. Without a functional cell wall, the bacterial cells become unstable and eventually rupture, leading to their destruction. This bactericidal action helps the body's immune system manage and clear the infection.
Common Uses
As a broad-spectrum antibiotic, amoxicillin is effective against a variety of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. It is frequently utilized for the management of bacterial infections involving different systems of the body, including:
- Respiratory Tract Infections: Such as infections affecting the throat, tonsils, sinuses, and lower respiratory airways.
- Ear, Nose, and Throat Infections: Including common middle ear infections.

Important Considerations
