Precautions
Use with caution in patients with liver disease. Chronic use of Alka-Seltzer Plus Cold & Cough Formula Liquid Gels is not recommended in patients with liver disease.
The elimination of Chlorpheniramine (Alka-Seltzer Plus Cold & Cough Formula Liquid Gels) may be prolonged in patients with renal dysfunction. These patients should be monitored for excessive sedation and other adverse effects that may result from Chlorpheniramine (Alka-Seltzer Plus Cold & Cough Formula Liquid Gels) accumulation.

Use Alka-Seltzer Plus Cold & Cough Formula Liquid Gels liquid as directed by your doctor. Check the label on the medicine for exact dosing instructions.
- Take Alka-Seltzer Plus Cold & Cough Formula Liquid Gels liquid by mouth with or without food. If stomach upset occurs, take with food to reduce stomach irritation.
- Use a measuring device marked for medicine dosing. Ask your pharmacist for help if you are unsure of how to measure your dose.
- If you miss a dose of Alka-Seltzer Plus Cold & Cough Formula Liquid Gels liquid, take it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not take 2 doses at once.

Alka-Seltzer Plus Cold & Cough Formula Liquid Gels is metabolized (eliminated by conversion to other chemicals) by the liver. Therefore drugs that increase the action of liver enzymes that metabolize Alka-Seltzer Plus Cold & Cough Formula Liquid Gels [for example, carbamazepine (Tegretol), isoniazid (INH, Nydrazid, Laniazid), rifampin (Rifamate, Rifadin, Rimactane)] reduce the levels of Alka-Seltzer Plus Cold & Cough Formula Liquid Gels and may decrease the action of Alka-Seltzer Plus Cold & Cough Formula Liquid Gels. Doses of Alka-Seltzer Plus Cold & Cough Formula Liquid Gels greater than the recommended doses are toxic to the liver and may result in severe liver damage. The potential for Alka-Seltzer Plus Cold & Cough Formula Liquid Gels to harm the liver is increased when it is combined with alcohol or drugs that also harm the liver.
Cholestyramine (Questran) reduces the effect of Alka-Seltzer Plus Cold & Cough Formula Liquid Gels by decreasing its absorption into the body from the intestine. Therefore, Alka-Seltzer Plus Cold & Cough Formula Liquid Gels should be administered 3 to 4 hours after cholestyramine or one hour before cholestyramine.
Alka-Seltzer Plus Cold & Cough Formula Liquid Gels doses greater than 2275 mg per day may increase the blood thinning effect of warfarin (Coumadin) by an unknown mechanism. Therefore, prolonged administration or large doses of Alka-Seltzer Plus Cold & Cough Formula Liquid Gels should be avoided during warfarin therapy
