Each 24-g powder contains β-hydroxy-β-methylbutyric acid (HMB) 1.2 g, L-Arginine (Abound) 7 g, L-Glutamine (Abound) 7 g, Carbohydrates (Abound) 7.9 g, Sugar (Abound) 1 g and Calcium (Abound) 200 mg. Energy: 79 kcal.
Therapeutic nutrition product intended for people who have non-healing wounds eg, pressure ulcers, venous leg ulcers, diabetic foot ulcers, burn injury, non-healing surgical incisions. For use in concert with a complete and balanced diet (oral food intake, oral nutrition supplements, enteral tube feedings or some combination) along with optimal management of the wound (debridement, moisture control, wound dressings and infection control).
Each packet of Abound is dissolved with liquid to make 1 serving. The recommended dose is 2 servings (packets) a day. The 2 daily servings of Abound are best consumed with a morning meal and an evening meal.
Preparation for
Oral Consumption: Mix 1 packet of Abound with 237-296 mL of cold water (use juice/other liquid for neutral product), and stir with a spoon until all powder is dissolved. Note: Do not mix Abound with hot or boiling water/juice.
Administering as Tube Feeding: Abound should not be mixed with formula in a tube-feeding bag. For mixing, place 1 packet of Abound in a small, clean container (about 177-237 mL volume). Add 120 mL of water at room temperature. Mix well with a spoon until all powder is dissolved. Verify correct tube placement. Flush feeding tube with 30 mL of water. Administer Abound through feeding tube using a 60 cc or larger syringe. Flush with an additional 30 mL of water. A smaller amount of water can be used to flush the tube if the patient is on fluid-restriction.
