Propanthel is effective as adjunctive therapy in the treatment of peptic ulcer.

Usual Adult Dose for Peptic Ulcer
Adjunctive therapy:
Initial dose: 15 mg orally taken 30 minutes before each meal and 30 mg orally at bedtime (a total of 75 mg/day)
Patients with mild manifestations and patients of small stature may be given 7.5 mg orally 3 times a day, taken 30 minutes before each meal.

Precautions
Propanthel is contraindicated in patients with glaucoma, obstructive disease of the gastrointestinal tract, obstructive uropathy, intestinal atony of the elderly or debilitated patient, severe ulcerative colitis or toxic megacolon complicating ulcerative colitis, unstable cardiovascular adjustment in acute hemorrhage, and myasthenia gravis.
Propanthel should be used with caution in the elderly and in all patients with autonomic neuropathy, hyperthyroidism, coronary heart disease, congestive heart failure, cardiac tachyarrhythmias, hypertension, or hiatal hernia associated with reflux esophagitis.
Because gastrointestinal antispasmodics are highly anticholinergic drugs, Propanthel meets Beers criteria as a medication that is potentially inappropriate for use in older adults.
With overdose, a curare-like action may occur, characterized by muscular weakness and possible paralysis.
Safety and effectiveness have not been established in pediatric patients (less than 18 years of age).

Antacids
