Pgf2-Alpha Tham is used principally for the termination of pregnancy,It may also be used for missed abortion, hydatidiform mole, and fetal death in utero. Pgf2-Alpha Tham has also been given for the induction of labour but has a higher incidence of adverse effects than dinoprostone, and is no longer routinely recommended; more appropriate treatment is discussed on.
Intra-amniotic
Pregnancy termination in the 2nd trimester
Adult: 40 mg by slowly injecting 8 ml of solution containing 5 mg/ml into the amniotic sac; give a further dose of 10-40 mg after 24 hr if the membranes are still intact.
Allergy or intolerance to Pgf2-Alpha Tham or other oxytocics, asthma - or history of (increased risk of bronchoconstriction), cephalopelvic disproportion, pelvic inflammatory disease, pulmonary disease - active, and ruptured membranes — intra-amniotic or extra-amniotic route (increased risk of intravascular absorption of Pgf2-Alpha Tham).
Oxytocin or other oxytocics (concurrent use with Pgf2-Alpha Tham may result in uterine hypertonus, possibly causing uterine rupture or cervical laceration, especially in the absence of adequate cervical dilatation; although combinations are sometimes used for therapeutic advantage, when used concurrently, patient should be closely monitored.
Bronchoconstriction; nausea; vomiting; diarrhoea; abdominal pain; flushing; shivering; headache; dizziness; hypotension; sudden CV collapse; hypertension; hypersensitivity reactions; convulsions; EEG changes; local tissue irritation; erythema; pyrexia; raised white cell count; local infection; excessive uterine activity; uterine rupture; cervical laceration and rupture; foetal distress and rarely fetal death.
