Qualitative and quantitative composition

A dopamine D2-receptor antagonist. It has been used therapeutically as an antidepressant, antipsychotic, and as a digestive aid. (From Merck Index, 11th ed)

Therapeutic indications

An indication is a term used for the list of condition or symptom or illness for which the medicine is prescribed or used by the patient. Contraindications

Phaeochromocytoma, epilepsy, manic states, hyperprolactinaemia, mammary dysplasia, malignant mastopathies, cardiac impairment. GI bleeding, mechanical obstruction or perforation.

Special warnings and precautions for use

There are specific as well as general uses of a drug or medicine. A medicine can be used to prevent a disease, treat a disease over a period or cure a disease. Motrol is used in the treatment of psychosis, depression, frequent persistent heart burn, gastro-oesophageal reflux disease, irritable bowel syndrome, indigestion (dyspepsia).

Interaction with other medicinal products and other forms of interaction

Reduced bioavailability with sucralfate, aluminium- and magnesium-containing antacids. Effect on GI motility may be antagonised by anticholinergic agents, narcotics and analgesics. Avoid alcohol.

Neuroleptic malignant syndrome, Postural hypotension (low blood pressure), Liver transaminases increased, Breast enlargement, Increase in body weight, Irregular menstrual cycle
