Mechanism of Action
In the context of digestive health, dimeticona acts as an anti-foaming agent. It functions by altering the surface tension of gas bubbles within the stomach and intestines. When surface tension is reduced, small, trapped gas bubbles coalesce into larger bubbles. This physical process allows the gas to be eliminated more easily through natural means, such as belching or passing flatus.
Unlike many other substances, dimeticona is physiologically inert. It is not absorbed into the bloodstream from the digestive tract and does not interfere with the absorption of nutrients or the secretion of digestive juices. Its action is entirely mechanical, meaning it does not react chemically with the body's tissues or systems.
