Aluminium hydroxide (Ancool) is an inorganic salt used as an antacid. It is a basic compound that acts by neutralizing hydrochloric acid in gastric secretions. Subsequent increases in pH may inhibit the action of pepsin. An increase in bicarbonate ions and prostaglandins may also confer cytoprotective effects.
Each tablet contains Magnesium hydroxide (Ancool) 200 mg and Magnesium hydroxide (Ancool) 200 mg or with dimethicone 25 mg (for Magnesium hydroxide (Ancool)).
Each 5 mL suspension contains Magnesium hydroxide (Ancool) (as Magnesium hydroxide (Ancool) paste) 200 mg and Magnesium hydroxide (Ancool) (as Magnesium hydroxide (Ancool) gel) 225 mg or with dimethicone 25 mg (for Magnesium hydroxide (Ancool)).
Maalox suspension also contains methylparahydroxybenzoate E218, propylparahydroxybenzoate E216, anhydrous citric acid, sodium saccharin, crystallizing liquid sorbitol E420, mannitol powder E421, hydrogen peroxide, peppermint oil, concentrated HCl and purified water as excipients.

Simeticone (Ancool) is contraindicated in patients with pheochro-mocytoma because the drug may cause a hypertensive crisis, probably due to release of catecholamines from the tumor. Such hypertensive crises may be controlled by phen-tolamine.
Simeticone (Ancool) is contraindicated in patients with known sensitivity or intolerance to the drug.
Simeticone (Ancool) should not be used in epileptics or patients receiving other drugs which are likely to cause extrapyramidal reactions, since the frequency and severity of seizures or extrapyramidal reactions may be increased.
Use Magnesium hydroxide (Ancool) chewable tablets as directed by your doctor. Check the label on the medicine for exact dosing instructions.
- Take Magnesium hydroxide (Ancool) chewable tablets by mouth with or without food. Take Magnesium hydroxide (Ancool) chewable tablets with a full glass of water (8 oz/240 mL).

There are specific as well as general uses of a drug or medicine. A medicine can be used to prevent a disease, treat a disease over a period or cure a disease. It can also be used to treat the particular symptom of the disease. The drug use depends on the form the patient takes it. It may be more useful in injection form or sometimes in tablet form. The drug can be used for a single troubling symptom or a life-threatening condition. While some medications can be stopped after few days, some drugs need to be continued for prolonged period to get the benefit from it.Aluminium hydroxide (Ancool) either alone or in combination with some other drugs is used to treat heartburn, upset or sour stomach, peptic ulcer and related pain, gastro esophageal reflux disease (GERD). It is also used in patients with kidney problems to reduce phosphate levels.

While some medications can be stopped after few days, some drugs need to be continued for prolonged period to get the benefit from it.This medication is used to treat the symptoms of too much stomach acid such as stomach upset, heartburn, and acid indigestion. It is also used to relieve symptoms of extra gas such as belching, bloating, and feelings of pressure/discomfort in the stomach/gut. Simethicone helps break up gas bubbles in the gut. Aluminum and magnesium antacids work quickly to lower the acid in the stomach. Liquid antacids usually work faster/better than tablets or capsules.
This medication works only on existing acid in the stomach. It does not prevent acid production. It may be used alone or with other medications that lower acid production (e.g., H2 blockers such as cimetidine/ranitidine and proton pump inhibitors such as omeprazole).
If you are self-treating with this medication, carefully read the package instructions before you start using this product to be sure it is right for you. Some products have similar brand names but different active ingredients with different uses. Taking the wrong product could harm you. Ask your pharmacist if you have any questions about your product or its use.
