Overview of Paramolan (Acetaminophen)
Quick Facts
- Active Ingredient: Acetaminophen (also known as Paracetamol).
- Primary Drug Class: Analgesic (pain reliever) and Antipyretic (fever reducer).
- Usage: Mild to moderate pain and fever.
Paramolan is a trade name for a medication containing the active substance Acetaminophen, which is internationally recognized as Paracetamol. It belongs to a class of drugs known as non-opioid analgesics and antipyretics. It is one of the most widely used over-the-counter (OTC) medications globally for the treatment of pain and fever.
Acetaminophen is indicated for the temporary relief of mild to moderate pain, including headaches, muscle aches, backaches, toothaches, and menstrual discomfort. It is also used to reduce fever associated with colds and flu-like syndromes.
Unlike nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) such as ibuprofen, acetaminophen does not possess significant anti-inflammatory effects. Its mechanism of action is primarily thought to be central, affecting pain and temperature regulation within the central nervous system (the brain and spinal cord). While the exact process remains a subject of ongoing research, it is believed to work by inhibiting certain enzymes that contribute to the sensation of pain and the elevation of body temperature.
