Understanding Artzal
Artzal is a sterile, viscoelastic solution composed of high molecular weight sodium hyaluronate. This substance is a natural polysaccharide belonging to the glycosaminoglycan family and is a significant component of the extracellular matrix in various connective tissues.
Composition and Origin
The active ingredient, sodium hyaluronate, is extracted and purified from avian sources. In its healthy state, this substance is found in high concentrations within the synovial fluid and the cartilage matrix of human joints. It is characterized by its biocompatibility and its specific physical properties, particularly its viscosity and elasticity.
Role in Joint Function
In a physiological environment, sodium hyaluronate performs several critical functions within the joint space:
