Each soft capsule contains Ferrous fumarate (Ferrovit) 162 mg, Folic acid (Ferrovit) 750 mcg, Cyanocobalamin (Ferrovit) 10 mcg.
Prevention & treatment of Fe-deficiency anaemia resulting from inadequate diet, during menstruating period, malabsorption, pregnancy, breastfeeding & any condition of blood loss. Burns, gastrectomy, haemodialysis, haemorrhage & any medications eg, antacids, Ca supplement, penicillamine, Zn, that cause bleeding from the GIT.
Adults: 1 soft cap once daily.
Hypersensitivity to any of the components of Ferrovit. Infants <12 months. Patients with hemochromatosis, hemosiderosis and non-iron deficiency anemia. Histories of nephrolithiasis, hyperoxaluria and oxalate dysbolism (risk of calculus) and thalassemia (risk of increased iron absorption). Large doses >1 g daily of vitamin C shall always be avoided in patients with glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD) deficiency (risk of hemolytic anemia).
When Ferrovit is concurrently used with anti-aldosterone agent or triamterene, hyperkalemia may occur.
Ferrovit should not be concurrently used with: Phosphates, calcium salts, oral tetracyclines, antacids and levodopa.
Teas containing tannins eg, green tea and red tea may decrease iron absorption.
Constipation, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, dark stools and bellyache may occur. Usually, these side effects are transient.
Taking high doses of vitamin C (>1 g/day) may result to hyperoxaluria, nausea, vomiting, heartburn, abdominal cramps, fatigue, flushing, headache, insomnia and sleepiness. Diarrhea may occur after oral dosage of >1 g/day. Ascorbic acid rarely causes hemolytic anemia, cardiac failure and flank pain.
