Overview of Cazitel Plus
What is Cazitel Plus?
Cazitel Plus is a broad-spectrum anthelmintic medication formulated specifically for use in dogs. It is designed to treat and control a variety of common intestinal parasites, including various species of roundworms, hookworms, whipworms, and tapeworms.
Composition and Mechanism
The medication typically contains a combination of three active ingredients that work together to eliminate internal parasites:
- Praziquantel: This component is primarily effective against cestodes (tapeworms). It works by damaging the parasite's skin, leading to the contraction and paralysis of the worm, which is then digested or passed by the host's immune system.
- Pyrantel (as pyrantel embonate): This ingredient acts as a neuromuscular blocker on nematodes (roundworms and hookworms). It causes sudden contraction and spastic paralysis, causing the parasites to lose their grip on the intestinal wall so they can be expelled naturally through the digestive tract.
- Febantel: This is a pro-benzimidazole that interferes with the energy metabolism of the parasite. It is particularly effective against whipworms and works synergistically with pyrantel to enhance the overall efficacy against roundworms.
Therapeutic Use
Cazitel Plus is used as a multi-component treatment to manage mixed infections. By targeting different types of parasites simultaneously, it provides a comprehensive approach to intestinal deworming. It is effective against the most frequent intestinal parasites found in dogs, including:
- Roundworms: Toxocara canis, Toxascaris leonina.
- Hookworms: Ancylostoma caninum, Uncinaria stenocephala.
- Whipworms: Trichuris vulpis.
- Tapeworms: Dipylidium caninum, Taenia species, Echinococcus granulosus, and Echinococcus multilocularis.
